Alhamdulillah, in a few days my housemanship days will be over. I've submitted my log book & passed the leadership to others. I just have to pray hard that everything goes on without a glitch. I am going to miss Taiping life; hospital life & out of hospital.
The 2 years here taught me alot about life as a whole & preparing me to become an MO. I am proud to have done my housemanship in Taiping. The training might not be as good as in East Malaysia but it may just be one of the best in the Peninsular. Taiping Hospital may just be a distfict hospital but it caters for a wide area. Patients come from Gerik & all the way from Kepala Batas. The cases vary widely & we work with limited assets...there are only FOUR ABG machines in the whole hospital & each one will break down every other day! HOs have to run like dogs for stat ABGs...in the middle of the scorching heat & relentless rain (mind you,this is the wettest place in Malaysia).
Throughout the service I have encountered all types of people..macam2 ragam.
1. Housemen
Yes, we are the lowest in the hierarchy and are overworked...bla,bla,bla. Get over it and work! I find that most of the complaints come from HOs that don't really work! They have big shot parents & come to work expecting preferential treatment. Suruh buat kerja compalain cakap stressful...If you cant take it,please resign! I get fed up with these people. Some HOs just look for trouble...you get extended for a year and still don't learn. Still refuse to come to work on time and take leaves as they please. Bile kantoi cakap orang lain tak cover...entah brape kali nak cover tak tau la.
2. MOs
I have seen a trend amongst the new MOs, especially this past 1 year. The good ones tend to be nice and willing to TEACH & GUIDE, while the bad ones will just scream & shout blindly even though the HOs are better than them (these types also get screwed by specialists more). The bad ones are also like 'kacang lupakan kulit'. Instead of understanding the difficulties of being junior HOs, they make it worse. Tak ingat langsung yang diorang ni pun start2 lembap & blur...they DEMAND respect instead of COMMAND respect. I vow never to become like these bad MOs and instead TEACH & GUIDE the junior doctors, insyaAllah. In the end all juniors will eventually be colleagues and no matter how good you are there will always be someone better. There is no use being a BODOH SOMBONG.
